030. Simple joys and the art of saving money
Nov 6, 2023

Erica joins this week’s podcast, and we discuss the concept of simple joys and the importance and value of recognizing and appreciating simple joys in our lives. When we find glimmers of joy in our everyday lives, we’re less dependent on the dopamine hint from buying new things, and we’re better able to appreciate what we already have. We discuss the importance of mindfulness, being present, gratitude, and how to find more joy in our lives. We also dig into using this energy to declutter, and the concepts of death cleaning and our new term, mid-life cleaning. And we share a detailed list of questions to ask yourself while decluttering.

Questions to ask yourself while decluttering:

  • Is this my favorite?
  • Do I love it?
  • If I lost it, would I replace it?
  • Would I buy it again?
  • How much would it cost me if I had to replace it?
  • What’s the worst thing that could happen if I let it go?
  • Is this thing in solid working order?
  • Is this item plastic?
  • Would this item come with me if I were moving/downsizing?
  • Does this item spark joy?
  •  Did I bring this items into my life?
  • If I were free from guilt, would I still keep it?
  • Will I have more space to do the things I want?
  • Do I need to save it for tax or legal reasons?
  • Have I used it in the last year?
